Democratic MP Majdi Karbai stated that Members of the European Parliament have asked the establishment of a committee of inquiry at the European level after correspondence he had addressed concerning the case of Italian waste, illegally exported to Tunisia.
He added that the Region of Campania in Italy has been denounced for having infringed the provisions of certain international agreements, in particular, the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their elimination.
The European Parliament likewise called on the Italian region to retrieve waste that was illegally exported to Tunisia, the MP added.
