Italy has disbursed €25 million to back the decentralisation process in Tunisia and added 6 million to prepare municipal executives, Italian Ambassador to Tunisia Lorenzo Fanara announced on Thursday.
At a meeting with Minister of Local Affairs Lotfi Zitoun, Fanara reaffirmed his country’s engagement to hasten the mobilisation of needed funds devoted to municipalities, announced a statement from the Ministry.
Zitoun emphasised that decentralisation is an “irreversible strategic choice” to carry out the process of democratic transition, welcoming the support provided by Italy in this direction.
The meeting concentrated on bilateral cooperation and ways to develop it, particularly in the area of decentralisation.
