Tunisia-Joint statement of 38 Arab political parties, including Tunisians, call for ending foreign interference in Libya

The six Tunisian parties are the Popular Current, the Workers’ Party, Tunisia ahead, al-Qotb, al-Baath and the Socialist Party.

In a joint statement issued Tuesday, they called for providing necessary support to the Libyan people to eradicate terrorism and disarm the militias.

They stressed the need to launch an inter-Libyan political operation without guardianship to achieve national reconciliation and free elections to restore Libya’s sovereignty.

The signatories also called for an end to “the crimes of the Turkish regime and its violent interference in Libya,” underscoring their unconditional support for the Libyan people to face “the Turkish occupation and terrorist groups.”

“Since 2011, Libya has been subject to foreign interference that has overthrown the state and its institutions and paved the way for internal conflicts and the emergence of terrorist groups and organised crime,” the statement said.

“The situation worsened after the Government of National Accord called on Turkey to intervene in Libya in order to take control of Tripoli and western Libya with a view to dividing the country,” said the same source.

For these political parties, “the Turkish state took advantage of the treasonous Muslim Brotherhood to impose on the Libyan people an occupation agreement. Turkey henceforth dispatched thousands of mercenaries and terrorists to Libya, ones who had previously destroyed Syria.”

The parties condemned “the support of the Turkish regime for the terrorist groups which spread chaos in more than one Arab country, particularly in Syria and Libya”.

“The Turkish occupation and terrorist groups pose a threat to the neighbouring countries, with the blessing of political parties loyal to the Muslim Brotherhood, primarily Ennahdha movement,” they said.

The signatories called on the Libyan people to join efforts and face any attempt to enslave them. They stressed the importance of reconciliation for the Libyan people and the establishmen of an internal dialogue involving all political actors without exclusion.

Among the 38 signatories of this declaration are the Dignity Party (Egypt), Al-Mourabitoun (Lebanon), the Jordanian Communist Party, the Socialist Democratic Vanguard Party (Morocco), the Lebanese Democratic Party and the Syrian People’s Party.
