Tunisia-Kais Saied : No change in presidential election legislation

President Kais Saied welcomed Farouk Bouasker, president of the Independent High Authority for Elections. During this meeting, Saied insisted on the alignment of the new constitution, set on July 25, 2022, with the legal framework governing presidential elections without the necessity for subsequent changes to electoral law.

Saied emphasised that the constitution and the electoral law present no conflict, denying any hypothesis to the contrary. According to him, the Constitution prevails in terms of authority over inferior laws.

This clarification from the president comes in reply to debates on a possible need to adjust electoral legislation to comply with the new constitutional provisions.
