Tunisia-Kais Saied orders immediate renovation of Kasbah mosque

President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, paid yesterday Monday, February 26, 2024, during an unannounced visit, to the Kasbah Mosque in Tunis, closed since 2011.

According to a press release from the presidency, the head of state checked“the state of neglect in all its aspects”, calling for its immediate renovation.

Indeed, the Head of State gave instructions for its immediate renovation, “because this mosque is one of the main Islamic monuments of Tunisia, built on the orders of the founder of the Hafsid state, Abu Zakaria Al-Hafsi, finished in 633 A.H., corresponding to the year 1235 A.D.

Still according to a press release from Carthage, the President of the Republic voiced his deep dissatisfaction with this neglect. “This Great Mosque, whose construction took only three years, has not been maintained or renovated for more than a decade,” he denounced.
