Tunisia-Kamal Sahnoun: “lack of professional and financial appreciation drives Tunisian engineers to emigrate” [Video]

 Dean of Tunisian Engineers Kamal Sahnoun has identified two main factors pushing the surge in the emigration of engineers from Tunisia: the quest for professional recognition and better financial prospects. 

In his statement to Tunisie Numérique, Sahnoun underlined the disparity in engineers’ wages across the region. For instance, engineers in Morocco earn about four times the salary of their Tunisian counterparts, while in Jordan, engineers’ salaries are double those in Tunisia.

Sahnoun also remarked on the constant and increasing trend of engineers leaving public institutions in Tunisia. This exodus has resulted in a notable shortage of engineering professionals within Tunisian public entities, a gap that is being filled by people who lack the requisite experience and engineering skills. This skills gap poses a challenge to maintaining pace with the advancements in the engineering sector.
