Tunisia-Kiosk demolition: Mayor of Sbeitla was unaware

Faycel Remili, the mayor of Sbeitla revealed on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, that the governor of Kasserine demolished the anarchic kiosk without informing him, utilising the governor’s material and with the intervention of security units.

Remili added that the municipality has not yet ruled on the execution date of the decision to demolish the kiosks being built on state-owned land. The governor selected demolish these anarchic constructions at midnight but he modified his decision since the family learned the time of the intervention, the victim and members of his family were at the scene.
He added that he was surprised to learn this morning that the kiosk was demolished and a man died under its rubble. The victim, aged about fifty, works in the municipal depot and father of 4 children. The mayor also stressed that the security units had to evacuate the premises before proceeding with the demolition.
