Tunisia – Krifa: Abir Moussi is imprisoned just because she is a presidential candidate

Lawyer and PDL member Karim Krifa confirmed that the defence team of PDL leader Abir Moussi has disclosed that the initial cause for her detention was a complaint filed by the ISIE in December 2022. This complaint was connected to what it considers an insulting blog article she published, allegedly inciting opposition against the ISIE on the interpretation of decree 54.

Krifa clarified that the published material was an open letter to the President of the Republic, questioning the ISIE’s involvement in political party affairs and taking sides in favour of one candidate over another.

During a press conference at the PDL headquarters in the capital, Krifa, accompanied by members of the Defense Collective and members of the Political Bureau, indicated that the expert report, consisting of 590 pages from the inspection of Abir Moussi’s data, was delivered over two weeks ago to the investigating judge, who has yet to make a ruling.

He further stated, “The party president has been incarcerated, although the report did not provide any details substantiating the accusation.”

Krifa voiced his belief that “authorities are currently employing the judiciary and the ISIE as tools to eliminate political opponents.” He added, “Through decree 54, the authorities pause all political, partisan, union, and free media activities,” affirming that Abir Moussi is being unlawfully detained simply because she is a presidential candidate.
