Tunisia- Lawyers start hunger strike in Mornaguia

A group of attorneys started a hunger strike yesterday at Mornaguia civilian prison following the illegal detention, assault and torture of a Tunisian citizen called Elyes Laabidi with an internal mental disability despite the issuance of a judicial decision in his favour (dismiss the case) and hospitalize him for treatment.

According to the same source, the lawyers have reached since November 2019 all the administrative and judicial authorities to execute the judicial decision but without reply to date.

After visiting the detained citizen, it was confirmed that he had been the victim of assault and torture, which prompted several lawyers to observe an open hunger strike.
