Tunisia-Lotfi Zitoun: The state must be ruled by one head

Former Ennahdha member Lotfi Zitoun examined the political crisis that has rocked Tunisia for more than a month now.
Speaking at Radio Culturelle, he affirmed the need to rethink the current political regime assuring that the state can only be ruled by one head. The politician, therefore, notes, on one hand, the duality of the two heads of the executive and, on the other, the presidency of the Parliament.
According to Lotfi Zitoun, the prevailing deadlock was foreseen due to the existence of many structural flaws. He argued that since the constitution was drafted in 2013, there had been warnings against the catastrophe that could happen with the division of powers between three presidencies who are struggling to get as many prerogatives as possible.
Asked on the initiative of the dialogue as a way out of the crisis, Zitoun stated he was pessimistic about the progression of the situation, examining that the establishment of the Constitutional Court a body which could have performed a decisive role in the dispute which opposes the two heads of the executive will not happen anytime soon.
He added that the people should have their word the political regime they desire to see applied, consequently joining the position of several politicians who have called for a referendum on the political regime
