Professor of Virology and Member of the Scientific Committee Dr Mahjoub Aouni emphasised the prevalence of various respiratory viruses during this period.
In his statement to Tunisie Numérique on Monday, January 29, 2024, Dr Aouni underscored that among these viruses, the most important are the influenza strains, notably H1N1 and H3N2. He also noted seasonal influenza, which is generally milder compared to other virus strains.
Furthermore, Dr Aouni pointed out that the coronavirus, with its various strains, continues to circulate in various proportions. He noted that the symptoms of coronavirus infection remain similar to common ones, such as headaches, joint pain, and sore throat. Nevertheless, these symptoms may be more severe with the new ‘GN1’ variant.
Dr. -Aouni underscored the rapid spread of these viruses and highlighted the significance of prevention, particularly among the elderly. He advised continuing to follow preventive measures, including wearing masks, to decrease the risk of infection.
