Tunisia-Mahjoub Ouni: COVID-19 is still spreading in parts of Tunisia

The member of the Scientific Committee for the fight against coronavirus, Mahjoub Ouni, confirmed that the epidemic situation in Tunisia has improved in recent weeks with the significant decline in the number of infections and deaths. Despite this stabilization, the health crisis is not over and the virus is still spreading in some regions of Tunisia, according to him.

Speaking on private radio, he added the positivity rate recorded in recent weeks ranges between 15 and 20%, noting that the Omicron “BA2” subvariant is spreading rapidly in some neighbouring nations and in Europe. In Tunisia, this variant represents between 35 and 40% of cases of contamination and could be prevailing within a few weeks given the non-compliance with preventive measures and the weakening of immunity a few months after contamination and vaccination. concluded Ouni.
