The public prosecutor at the court of the first instance at Manouba commanded to place in custody a couple accused of “premeditated murder” of their own baby.
The parents who reside in “Chebbaou” in the Oued Ellil promptly reported to the national guard on Saturday evening, the possible abduction of their 7-month-old baby, through the window, while he was sleeping.
Law enforcement units then proceeded to the couple’s house to verify or refute the abduction report, the baby parents exhibited at the time of the interrogation symptoms of discomfort and had delivered contradictory accounts of the incident, which urged the officers to inspect their home more thoroughly. When they carefully removed the hatch cover located in the middle of the house, they found the infant’s body in the manhole with his hand coming out of the water.
A first examination on the baby’s corpse bore traces of strangulation on the neck. The two spouses have been placed in police custody, and inquiries are proceeding into this crime.
In addition, the victim’s body was transported to the forensic medicine service at Charles-Nicolle hospital, to discover the concrete circumstances of the death.
