The Interior Ministry and the US Embassy in Tunis, on Monday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote the level of security cooperation between the two countries.
Prime Minister and acting Interior Minister Hichem Mechichi said the MoU concerns «the security assistance strategy between Tunisia and the USA.» It will bolster security cooperation between Tunisia and the United States in the fight against terrorism and in the field of training and border protection.
The document provides for setting up an electronic surveillance system, exchanging information and expertise and providing equipment.
In turn, US ambassador to Tunisia Donald Blome said this MoU is part of an action plan to consider the security assistance programme being implemented with the Interior Ministry. It also aims to beef up cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism and securing the borders.
