Tunisia-Minister of Social affairs suspends director of a reception centre

Following an inspection visit on Thursday, October 21, 2021, to the social orientation centre in Tunis and to the children’s reception centre in Ezzahrouni, the Minister of Social Affairs adopted several decisions.
It was decided to suspend the director of the centre of supervision and social orientation and to open an inquiry by the general inspectorate of the ministry. The centre will be briefly closed from Monday, October 25, 2021. Residents of the centre will be relocated to other centres on a temporary basis pending its redevelopment.
The minister further ordered improved surveillance of children living at the Ezzahrouni centre. All staff working in reception centres belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs must carry out constant surveillance in order to preserve the dignity of residents of reception and care centres.
