Tunisia-Ministry of Health calls for lifting doctors’ strike

The Ministry of Health published a press release this Sunday, May 2, 2021, calling on doctors, dentists and public health pharmacists to lift the planned strike, taking into consideration the urgent health conditions while proceeding with negotiations to reach an agreement.

The ministry reaffirmed its respect for the right to strike as a constitutional right. It vowed to continue consultations for the demands of the sector. Nevertheless, the health department estimated that the continuation of the vaccination operation was a top priority as it enables the protection of Tunisians against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Accordingly, it called on all health professionals to continue serving in the vaccination centres, assuring that the continuity of work in the centres will allow the vaccination of more than 40,000 enrolled. The ministry added that it would work to correct any disruption to the Evax system.

In the end, the ministry reemphasised its thanks to all health professionals calling on the union structures to continue negotiations.
