Tunisia – Ministry of Interior: Categorical denial of allegations of human rights violations

The spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, Fakher Bouzgaia, vehemently refuted what he described as “false information” regarding alleged human rights violations, particularly within detention centers. In a statement issued on the sidelines of the conference, which assessed the ministry’s initiatives in strengthening human rights, Bouzgaia emphasized the ministry’s unwavering commitment to upholding human rights principles in every aspect.

He urged organizations that he perceives as spreading a distorted image of reality to visit detention centers and assess the ministry’s efforts in ensuring humane conditions. He underscored that the ministry’s structures have fortified human rights by actively participating in systems combating violence against women, adhering to a gender-sensitive approach, and expanding the experience of relationship offices with citizens to deliver quality services.

Addressing the security of the educational environment, the ministry spokesperson affirmed that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, measures have been initiated to counter deviant behavior around schools and institutes. This includes establishing a joint committee responsible for daily monitoring of these spaces, deploying security patrols, and reinforcing them with mobile patrols.
