Tunisia-Mnasri :The issue of privileges for members of regional councils is one of the tasks of the executive authority

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, spokesperson for the Independent High Authority for Elections, Mohamed Tlili Mnasri, addressed the controversy surrounding the privileges for members of the regional councils. He explained that such privileges are the duty of the executive authority and are given only by its order.

Mnasri remarked that the authority is awaiting the issuance of specific orders to decide these privileges. He mentioned that it has been confirmed there will not be full-time positions, but there will be an attendance grant for members.

He additionally confirmed that the Local Communities Code remains in effect, organizing the legislative framework without deviations.

On the topic of the overlapping responsibilities between the Council of Regions and the House of People’s Representatives, our speaker stated that the regional councils have been elected and are currently operational, with their primary focus on fields related to economic development. He highlighted the anticipation of a foundational procedural law that will outline the relationships between the local councils, the regional council, and the regional council, set to start from the inauguration date.
