Tunisia-Mnawar Saghiri: “Employees and agents of Agricultural Union have been without salaries for 3 months.”

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, engineer responsible for animal production at the Union of Agriculture Mnawar Saghiri revealed that the demonstration by workers and agents of the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries was a response to the delay in receiving their salaries for the past three months.

Saghiri clarified that the cause of the delay arises from the Union’s longstanding dependency on public grants for assigning highly efficient executives since the 1990s. These grants were instrumental in serving the Union’s interests and in easing the training of farmers.

Nevertheless, he remarked that the Union did not obtain this critical funding throughout 2023. Despite guarantees from the Prime Minister that the issue would be addressed at the beginning of January, the situation remains unresolved.

He underscored the dire circumstances faced by many union employees due to the lack of payment since last November. The delay has placed a substantial strain on their personal and family obligations. He urged officials, including the presidents of the republic and the government, to urgently find a solution to this pressing issue.
