Tunisia-Moez Triaa: fires destroyed 5,900 hectares of the forest area

The spokesperson for the National Office of Civil Protection, Moez Triaa stated that the fires registered during this summer destroyed 5,900 hectares of forest area, in the various governorates of the country. In total, 219 fires were documented between June and September 2022.

Nevertheless, Triaa did not rule out the criminal track, highlighting that the fires recorded this year are provoked acts, confirming that inquiries are underway to determine the cirucmqnctes of these incidents.

Triaa said that the fires recorded were “grave” and largely affected the forest area, particularly since 13,200 hectares of these forests were damaged by last year’s fires.
