Undocumented migrants carrying the coronavirus, who have illegally entered the Tunisian territory represents a real threat to the country’s health situation, Head of the Quarantine Committee at the Health Ministry Mohamed Rabhi said Wednesday. These migrants do not respect the mandatory quarantine measures in Monastir-based specialised centres.
In a statement to the TAP, he said that it was difficult to control the situation due to the recklessness of these people who secretly enter the Tunisian territory. They could increase the spread of the pandemic after all the containment efforts made, he stressed.
“From a legal perspective, secret infiltration through borders is punishable with a prison sentence,” Rabhi said, adding virus carriers are quarantined in specialised centres in Monastir so that they get appropriate treatment and prevent the transmission of the COVID-19.
“Amid attempts to escape from quarantine centres, we have mobilised health and security teams to find and bring them back to the centres,” he asserted.
