Tunisia-Monastir: 2 marine turtles released

A unit of the National Institute of Marine Sciences and Technology (French: INTSM) and the COMMON COastal Management and MOnitoring Network for tackling marine litter in the Mediterranean Sea (COMMON) project are preparing to free Thursday two loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) in Monastir, the TAP reported.

The movement comes in collaboration with the INTSMTunisian Sea Turtle Rescue Centre, fits within the observance of World Turtle Day 2020 (May 23).

It promotes awareness about turtles and promotes actions provided towards preserving and conserving marine turtle, declared COMMON project manager at the INTSM Sana Ben Ismail.

There are three species in Tunisia, namely loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta), the green turtle Chelonia mydas and the leatherback sea turtle), it emerges from data provided by the European Union-funded COMMON project.
