Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, economic expert Mourad Hattab estimated that the meeting held Wednesday in Tunis between the President of the Republic Kais Saied and Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni was fruitful.
“Financial deals signed. This visit confirms that Italy is a strategic partner for Tunisia in the Mediterranean. Trade between the two countries reached a significant milestone in 2023,” declares Hattab.
He also noted that Tunisia and Italy are partners in the 600-megawatt Mediterranean electricity interconnection (Elmed) project. Italy was the first foreign investor in Tunisia in 2023.
“The issue of regular migrants does not only concern Tunisia and Italy. It extends to other nations on the southern and northern shores of the Mediterranean,” estimates Hattab.
