Tunisia-Mustafa Abdel Kabir calls on Tunisian and Libyan sides to promptly identify goods allowed to pass through Ras Jedir crossing

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique,, head of the Tunisian Observatory for Human Rights, Mustafa Abdel Kabir stated that the agreement to reopen the Ras Jedir crossing between Tunisia and Libya was a gradual reopening deal, and it started on June 13 with the crossing of the diplomatic corps, ambulances, humanitarian cases, and others. Then it was decided to continue opening the crossing on June 29 for the movement of people and vehicles between the two countries.

Abdel Kabir clarified that the final part of opening this crossing is to permit the movement of traders between the two countries, noting that it is scheduled that a meeting between the authorities will take place at the end of this week or the start of next week, to agree on some points.

He stressed that it is required at this point for the Tunisian and Libyan authorities to determine the goods permitted to be passed, their size, the financial value of these goods, the value of the taxes paid on them, and also determine the forbidden goods. The speaker mentioned that there are complaints even from citizens of the two countries. They demanded that things return to what they were before the crossing was shut in March.

The head of the Tunisian Observatory for Human Rights called for accelerating the holding of this meeting, determining different details, and facilitating the process of passing through the crossing for citizens and merchants as well.
