Tunisia-Nabil Karoui furious after the arrest of Taoufik Ben Brik

In a post published on his official Facebook page on the evening of Thursday, July 23, 2020, Qalb Tounes’s president, Nabil Karoui, expressed his anger following the arrest of Tunisian journalist and writer Taoufik Ben Brik.

The correctional chamber at Ben Arous court of first of instance sentenced writer and journalist Taoufik Ben Brik to one year in prison with immediate effect.

The case dates back to October 2019, when HAICA alerted the public prosecutor to what it called “incitement to hatred and violence.”

“Tonight my friend Taoufik Ben Brik is languishing in prison for a crime of lèse-magistrate by denouncing the justice of Ben Ali … the same Ben Ali who took the trouble to stick a dirty case of violence to him to avoid arresting him for his opinions against the despotic regime.
Today our national Taoufik Ben Brik author of sarcastic pamphlets against all forms of mediocrity and autocratic excesses of the various regimes in Tunisia is sleeping in Mornaguia prison.
One year firm against Taoufik Ben Brik with a free spirit and without concessions.
Taoufik Ben Brik the scholar, friend and accomplice of the greatest intellectuals and novelists in the world will sleep in a sordid cell.
Taoufik Ben Brik the cultural and political agitator sleeps tonight in the prisons of the Revolution… there is something rotten in the Kingdom of Denmark. ”The said post read.
