In a statement to Tunisie Numerique, the head of the National Chamber of Poultry Meat Merchants Ibrahim Nafzaoui remarked that the peak consumption of poultry typically starts in June, coinciding with the date of Eid Al-Adha this year. He stressed that during Eid Al-Adha, there was a prominent surge in demand for poultry, sometimes exceeding the average consumption at the start of the administrative year.
Nafzaoui further clarified that due to the high prices of sacrificial animals, white meat acts as the primary alternative for Tunisian citizens. In the past, poultry shop owners would often close their businesses for up to a month following Eid Al-Adha. Nevertheless, over the last three years, they have resumed operations after only two Mondays, driven by the significant demand for their products.
Additionally, Nafzaoui stressed that June sees numerous family gatherings, including events like baccalaureate results announcements, “Novium” celebrations, weddings, and other festivities. This, coupled with the start of the main tourism season, significantly boosts the consumption and demand for white meat.
