Tunisia-Nafzaoui: “Due to deterioration of citizen’s purchasing power…we recorded significant decline in demand for white meat” [Video]

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, the head of the Chamber of Poultry Meat Traders Ibrahim Nafzaoui reported a significant reduction in the demand for white meat and eggs during the first week of Ramadan, despite the abundant supply.

Nafzaoui remarked that buying peaked in the three days leading up to Ramadan, then dropped greatly. He attributed this trend primarily to the lowered purchasing power of Tunisian consumers, who are becoming increasingly careful with their spending, especially with the Eid al-Fitr holiday approaching.

Further, he observed that this shift in consumer behaviour has led to a significant reduction in chicken meat prices, which have declined to no more than eight dinars per kilogram. Nafzaoui anticipates that prices will continue to decrease in the days ahead.
