Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, President of the National Chamber of Poultry Meat Merchants Ibrahim Nafzawi confirmed that the strategic stock of white meat for Ramadan will be available without any issues. He also revealed that poultry prices during Ramadan might undergo a reduction compared to the current months, thanks to the availability of white meat in the Tunisian market and efforts by the Chamber to control prices by lowering profit margins during this holy month.
Nafzawi foreshadowed an increase in poultry consumption during Ramadan this year due to the high prices of red meat and fish, prompting Tunisians to turn towards white meat. He admitted a shortage of poultry meat in January, attributing it to the consumption of part of the January stock in December, leading to a small increase in prices.
Concerning eggs, Nafzawi confirmed the presence of 160 million eggs. For the Ramadan stock, 12 million eggs were stored, and it is anticipated that the stock size at the end of February will be between 23 and 25 million eggs.
