Tunisia-Nice Attack: Public Prosecutor’s Office opens investigation

The Public Prosecutor’s Office at the judicial counter-terrorism division announced it has launched an inquiry against any individual who would be implicated in a murder or terrorist crimes, after Thursday’s knife attack in Nice, France whose perpetrator would be a Tunisian national. “This lawsuit comes under Article 83 of the Organic Law on the fight against terrorism and money laundering,” Mohsen Dali, deputy public prosecutor and spokesman for the Court of First Instance of Tunis, told the TAP agency.

This law enables the Court of First Instance to investigate terrorist crimes perpetrated outside the national territory and against Tunisian persons and interests, he added. According to the primary elements of the investigation, the attacker would be a Tunisian national, he stated. Dali added that the public prosecutor’s office at the judicial counter-terrorism division has assigned the case to a specialised security unit for additional research and investigation. Three people were killed, including at least one with his throat cut, during a knife attack inside the Notre Dame Basilica in Nice Thursday. The perpetrator was arrested.
