Tunisia-‘Noura Reve’ wins Carthage film festival

The dramatic film ”Noura Reve” by Tunisian-Belgian director Hinde Boujemaa has obtained the Golden Tanit award at the 30th edition of the Carthage film festival (Jcc). The second prize went to ”Atlantique” by Mati Diop (Senegal) and the third to ”Scales” by Shahad Ameen (Saudi Arabia). The best feature film winner was ”True Story” by Amine Lakhnech (Tunisia) and for the documentary category the award went to ”Talking About Trees” by Suhaib Gacem El Bari (Sudan) and ”All Come from Dust” by Younes Ben Slimen (Tunisia).

The best actress award went to Tunisia’s Hend Sabri for her role in ”Noura Reve”. The movie talks about an independent woman, Noura, who raises three children on her own, working for laundry at a hospital. While her husband Sofiane is once again in jail, she meets the love of her life, Lassad. Forced to hide their relationship (in Tunisia adultery can lead to a sentence of up to five years in jail), Noura asks for a divorce but just a few days before obtaining it, Sofiane’s imminent release from prison endangers the new couple’s love story.
