The latest report issued by the Tunisian social observatory under the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES) reveals a notable rise in the number of migrants arriving in Italy in an unregulated manner from Tunisia.
According to this report, 1,328 migrants landed in Italy during the month of October 2020 recording an increase of 180% opposed to the year 2019 (381), exposed the report, published this Wednesday, November 11, 2020.
Furthermore, the number of crossings intercepted is additionally on the rise, from 14 in October 2018 and 47 in October 2019 to 157 in October 2020.
Overall, there are consequently more than 11,212 non-regulatory migrants who have reached the Italian coast from Tunisia in ten months (from January 1 to October 31, 2020), of which 1291 are unaccompanied minors.
Added to this is the number of 11,900 migrants detained before arriving in Italy, during 999 intercepted crossing operations.
In addition, 73% of irregular migrants are Tunisians against 27% of different nationalities with 3,000 non-Tunisian irregular migrants having reached Italy.
