Writer and philosopher Olfa Youssef criticised MP Mohamed Affes’ misogynistic remarks, estimating that the latter should seek treatment.
Perceiving the paradox between the latter’s opinion in regard objective law and the reality that he is a deputy in a structure emanating from a constitution, she emphasised that the MP should at least respect the rules which gave him access to Parliament.
She additionally condemned the reaction of the Minister for Women Imen Houimel, who remained seated to hear Affes “delirious”, while several deputies left the room in a sign of disagreement with these offensive remarks, based on a reading patriarchal and limited understanding of religious texts.
Youssef concluded that the coolness given by the minister was due to the fact that to keep her post at the head of the ministry, Houimel was capable to give up her principles and positions.
