Adel Karim, member of the National Executive Office of the Farmers’ Union and in charge of biological agriculture, noted that the situation is under control concerning the olive fly disease, mainly present on the coasts of Mahdia Province, according to experts from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Karim told Tunisie Numeriqueital on Friday, July 19, 2024, that the Ministry is currently treating the Zabatine forests by both land and air. He said that this fly resides in coastal areas due to the high humidity and cannot survive in a dry climate, which should reassure farmers in Sidi Bouzid, Kairouan, and the surrounding areas.
He also underscored that this fly cannot spread within the republic and does not threaten the olive crop this season, especially since treatment is in full swing and the concerned departments are constantly monitoring the situation.
