Tunisia-Omar Naifer: “As temperatures increase, mosquito control campaigns will be strengthened and will include many regions” [Video]

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, Director of Health and Environmental Protection in the Municipality of Tunisia Dr Omar Naifer confirmed that campaigns to treat mosquitoes continue throughout the year and are strengthened as temperatures increase.

Our speaker emphasised that, in reaction to the climate changes impacting our country, mosquito control campaigns are relentless. The municipality of Tunisia is vigorously engaging in daily interventions across different areas conducive to mosquito breeding. An important focus is placed on Sabkhat Al-Sejoumi, where extensive efforts are underway to address mosquito infestations. These efforts include ground interventions, with plans to extend to aerial interventions in the upcoming period. Especially, interventions in the sabkha target areas where the water level does not surpass 50 cm.

With the rise in temperatures and the arrival of spring, Dr Naifer stated that the interventions are growing and include more vast areas, including unfamiliar areas belonging to the municipality of Tunisia, or even other areas outside Tunis, the capital, Ksoussa and Nabeul, to treat rural mosquitoes in particular.
