Tunisia-On behalf of the Presidency of Parliament, Rached Ghannouchi in solidarity with the CSM

The Presidency of Parliament issued a press release, this Sunday, February 6, 2022, through the official page of Rached Ghannouchi to remark on the decision of the President of the Republic regarding the dissolution of the Superior Council of the Judiciary. The Presidency of Parliament confirms that it has been closely monitoring the endless attacks on judges for months, in a context of “systematic dismantling of democratic institutions and the rule of law through the attack on the independence of the judiciary”.

Therefore, the Presidency of Parliament condemns the President of the Republic’s attack on the Constitution which advocates the separation of powers and establishes the independence of the judiciary, communicating its total solidarity with the CSM and rejecting any attack on the council.

The Presidency of Parliament called on Members of Parliament to unite with the judiciary and support it to maintain its independence while calling on all national organisations, political parties and civil society to stand on the side of the judiciary to safeguard the rule of law and institutions.
