Tunisia – On the instructions of Kaïs Saïed: book fair will take place on its scheduled date

After an initial statement by the National Foundation for the Development of Cultural and Artistic Festivals and Events last Saturday, that the 38th session of the Tunis International Book Fair could not be organized at the  Kram Exhibitions without providing reasons, a substantial update has emerged. Following directives from the President of the Republic, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs reported in a press release on Tuesday evening that the fair will proceed as originally planned from April 19 to 28, 2024.

This update came after a media statement by Walid Al-Hajjam, an advisor to the President, who assured that the event would be organized on time, under instructions from the Head of State. The press release highlighted the symbolic significance and historical role of the fair in enriching Tunisia’s cultural life. Accordingly, it was decided to hold the 38th session of the Tunis International Book Fair during the announced period, reaffirming the location at the Palais des Expositions du Kram.

The decision highlights the strong belief in the key role of culture in the development of societies and nations. It also reaffirms the Tunis International Book Fair’s importance in fostering creativity and promoting literature, books, publications, and more, both nationally and internationally. The ministry’s announcement echoes a commitment to ensuring that this key cultural event goes ahead, highlighting its role in the cultural and intellectual fabric of Tunisia and beyond.
