Tunisia – Opening of judicial investigation against former president of republic

The prosecution at the Ariana Court of First Instance authorized the opening of a judicial inquiry by the investigating judge against a former president of the republic, the owner of a private television channel and the presenter of one of the channel’s programs,  Nizar Laouj, deputy prosecutor at the Ariana Court of First Instance and its official spokesperson confirmed.

He stated that, following the complaint obtained by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of First Instance of Ariana from HAICA, to a private television channel which did not have a license and which intentionally broadcast an inflammatory speech undermining security and public order. As a result, a specialized investigative security team was assigned to search.

The official spokesperson for the Ariana Court of First Instance added that after finishing the research and procedures, the report was sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which authorized the opening of an investigation to this effect against the owner of the channel, a former president of the republic, and the presenter of the show, and the research is still underway before the investigating judge, responsible for examining the file.
