Tunisia – Opening of judicial investigation against Moncef Marzouki

The official spokesperson for the Anti-Terrorism Judicial Unit, Hanan Gaddas, confirmed in a statement to the media that authorization had been issued to open a judicial inquiry against interim President Moncef Marzouki following which was noted by the unit responsible for investigating terrorist crimes, when Marzouki intentionally held a press conference in which he attacked state establishments and several direct judges from the judicial pole counter-terrorism, including representatives of the public prosecutor’s office and the first investigating judges benefiting from the protection of the anti-terrorism law, by disclosing their names and their qualities, which puts their lives in danger, due to their specialization, which constitutes a violation within the meaning of the provisions of chapters 71 and 78 of the anti-terrorism law.

The spokesperson added that authorization was given to investigate the content of this symposium and the parties involved who partook in revealing the identity of the parties mentioned by name, title and description, to slander them and others and list them after completion.

Following the preliminary investigation, an investigative search was opened and those who organized and partookin this symposium which circulated on social media pages were prosecuted. The required judicial authorization was also obtained for those who have the status of lawyer and one of the investigating judges who was not on the aforementioned list was charged with the search, and the issuance of the required judicial cards was requested.
