The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Othman Jerandi welcomed the Director of the Council of Europe Office in Tunis Pillar Morales-Shaw
At the start of this meeting, the Minister wished Morales welcome and success in her duties. The meeting was a chance to examine the areas of co-operation between Tunisia and the Council of Europe, especially in the areas of human rights, the rule of law and democracy.
For her part, the Director of the Council of Europe Office expressed her confidence in Tunisia’s capability to succeed in this delicate stage, to strengthen the democratic path, and to accomplish the desired transition in the best conditions. She likewise reiterated the readiness of the Council of Europe to employ its expertise in a number of areas to support Tunisia on its political and development path, referring in this context to the working visit to Tunisia that the President of the European Commission for Democracy plans to initiate in the forthcoming period, through the law (Venice Commission) of the Council of Europe.
