Tunisia-Oueidat: “We are waiting for exchange code, perhaps it will provide solutions to possibility of Tunisians opening accounts in hard currency.”

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, head of the Sovereign National Line bloc Abdel Razzaq Oueidat highlighted the bloc’s focus on currency exchange issues. This concern emerges from widespread complaints among citizens concerning currency exchange and the challenge of infusing hard currency into the national economy.

Oueidat underscored the difficulties encountered by Tunisian youth operating remotely for foreign companies in various sectors, such as engineering. These people encounter obstacles in accessing their wages due to stringent scrutiny over the sources of these funds. He suggested that permitting these young professionals to open hard currency bank accounts could mitigate this issue.

Similarly, Oueidat pointed out that easing the process for Tunisian citizens living abroad to save their money in Tunisia and transfer it as needed would not only offer convenience but also assist bolster the country’s public finances with hard currency. The bloc is eagerly awaiting the new exchange code, expecting it will provide solutions and relevant legislation.

Oueidat also noted that the Governor of the Central Bank had informed that the exchange code is ready and will soon be presented to the House of People’s Representatives for consideration.
