Tunisia – Parliament: law governing relations between two chambers

The First Vice President of the Council for Regions and Districts, Zakia Al-Maroufi, stated today Monday that “the Council is still waiting for the regulatory text that governs relations with the Parliament,” remarking that “there is a law in the process of preparing to regulate relations with local councils.

She clarified, during a telephone interview on Jawhara FM, that “the internal regulations of the Council were approved by the majority, and by consensus”, underlining that “the Council follows the basic structure, therefore its internal regulations differ from that of the House of Representatives.

Asked regarding the council’s most important tasks, Maroufi said: “Its mission is to monitor and follow up on what has been approved,” noting that “the budget and development plans are submitted to representatives at the Council of Regions and districts”. She explained that “the representatives monitor the progress of the works, resolve issues in their regions and work to resolve development problems in these regions.”
