Tunisia-Pasteur Institute of Tunis: A seminar on active biomolecules from snake venom

The Pasteur Institute of Tunis (IPT) announced today the organization of its 21st seminar on December 7, 2023, focusing on the theme: “Research on active biomolecules from snake venom as a therapeutic alternative for human health.”

The seminar will be conducted by Professor Erij MESSADI, a Principal Biologist at the IPT Laboratory of Biomolecules, Venoms, and Theranostic Applications.

Currently serving as a Principal Biologist at the Pasteur Institute of Tunis (IP Tunis), Professor Erij Messadi joined in 2008. She holds a doctorate in veterinary medicine (Tunis, 2001), a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Paris XI (2007), and an authorization to direct research (HDR, 2016).

The research summary highlights that animal venoms contain pharmacologically active molecules with potential therapeutic applications across various pathologies.

During the seminar, Professor Erij Messadi will share insights into her experimental research within the Laboratory of Biomolecules, Venoms, and Theranostic Applications (LBVAT). Her focus lies on molecules derived from snake venoms and their potential therapeutic applications, particularly in treating pathologies such as ischemic heart disease or ocular neovascularization.

This experimental work aims to identify therapeutic alternatives for prevalent human diseases in Tunisia and globally, addressing significant public health challenges.
