Tunisia’s national production of phosphates could see an increase of 5.5 to 6 million tonnes in 2020 from 4.1 million tonnes in 2019, announced Minister of Industry Slim Feriani.
“This raise would create supplementary income in foreign currency equivalent to 1 billion dinars (350 million U.S. dollars),” Feriani stated during a press conference.
The predicted production volume of phosphates in 2020 will be the most considerable since 2011, the minister remarked.
The government has re-established the Meknassy phosphate mine in Sidi Bouzid province, which had been obstructed since 2013, Feriani added.
“This mine is anticipated to generate around 600,000 tonnes and create 460 jobs,” stated Feriani.
