President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Kais Saied, on Wednesday, expressed his pride in the neutrality of the military institution, its discipline and total loyalty to the homeland.
“We are not advocates of war but when the battles are imposed, we will fight with valour against our enemies, both inside and outside, and we will win on all fronts,” he pointed out as he chaired a ceremony at the Carthage Palace to mark the 64th anniversary of the National Army.
In an order of the day, the Head of State acknowledged the efforts made, day and night, by the military forces to defend the homeland, said a Presidency statement.
Saied also praised the contribution of the military institution in securing the smooth running of public services by imposing compliance with the law and the curfew.
He recalled the efforts of the Air Force in the repatriation of stranded Tunisians from every corner in the world.
“It is high time to set up an up-to-date legal system,” he added, saying that some legislation should be reviewed.
Saied saluted the flag as the national anthem was performed and inspected a detachment of the three armies taking part in a military parade.
He handed stripes to the military promoted to higher ranks and decorated others for their participation in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in recognition of their efforts.
At the end of the military parade, the Head of State received the torch marking the celebration of the 64th anniversary of the creation of the National Army.
The ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives, the Prime Minister, the Ministers of National Defence, Justice and the Interior as well as members of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and military officials.
