Prime minister Elyes Fakhfakh said that Media institutions will be included in the package of procedures approved by the Government for enterprises that were adversely affected by COVID-19 pandemic. The PM hailed the role of media in supporting the national effort to combat the pandemic.
Commemorating World Press Freedom Day, Fakhfakh professed his deep-felt backing for media freedom as one of the most significant rights achieved after the revolution and as one of the fundamental pillar of the democratic, pluralistic pathway that Tunisia has pursued.
He further reaffirmed his government pledge to provide legislative, structural and legal guarantees to secure the freedom of the media and devoting the independence of its structures, institutions and contents from all sorts of intervention and employment.
He further regarded the respect of the journalists professional and material rights as well as enhancing their working conditions to be a basic guarantee to strengthen media freedom.
He asserted that his cabinet is moving to place the media reform file among its top priorities of necessary reformations within the framework of broad and structural plans after intensifying consultations with all parties representing the sector.
In conclusion, he congratulated all journalists and media family for their works to preserve citizen’s right to information and to a free, pluralistic, independent national media that performs its function in preserving the principles of the Constitution of the Second Republic, which is the right to expression and Freedom of the press.
