In an exclusive interview with France 24, Prime Minister, Elyes Fakhfakh, reviewed the supervision of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. He expressed his confidence about the targeted lockdown that is underway however, he called on citizens to “remain vigilant”.
The PM Posituvely welcomed Tunisia management of the pandemic but displayed cautious optimism, saying that the number of cases is encouraging. The Corobavisu curve is quite good, he told France 24 as the country recorded zero infections for two consecutive days.
He further showed confidence in the confinement stages, that established a “contract of trust” between the authorities and the citizens to stem the pandemic. “We must keep this vigilance which pays (…) We have come to control this pandemic”.
He said he would not hesitate to return to completed lockdown if the situation requires so containment.
Commenting on the economic situation, he explains that estimation of a historical recession of more than 4% could be more critical, depending on the world economic situation. According to him, the budgeted need international aid this year, of 2.5 billion dollars, should “at least double”.
Finally, he rejected criticism of his government and arguments between certain members of his coalition. He ruled out for the moment the possibility of Qalb Tunes joining the government coalition, emphasising that the priorities are the health crisis and the revival of the economy.
