Tunisia-Postponement of the visit of European Commission delegation following decision of President Kais Saïed

President, Kaïs Saïed, took a significant decision during the meeting of the National Security Council, on Monday, September 25, 2023. He instructed Minister of Foreign Affairs Nabil Ammar, to postpone the scheduled visit of a delegation of the European Commission to Tunisia to a later date which will be agreed between the two parties.

The reasons for this decision to delay the visit were not explicitly detailed in the press release. Remark that in the video broadcast yesterday on the official page of the presidency during the National Security Council, President Kaïs Saïed clearly revealed that he did not plan to cede the slightest particle of national sovereignty. He emphasised that Tunisia will therefore have to rely on its own resources to finance the state budget.
