Tunisia-President Kaîs Saied grants citizenship to 135 people, including 34 Palestinians

President Kaîs Saied signed on Monday a decree under which 135 people will be offered the Tunisian citizenship, including 34 Palestinians, a reliable source at the Presidency announced to the  TAP on Monday.

“Granting citizenship to 34 Palestinians demonstrates Saied’s determination to support the Palestinian cause and does by no means harm the right of return of Palestinian refugees,” the source further said.

The other recipients of citizenship are Arab and African nationals, the source said. Tunisian law allows dual citizenship.

President Kais Saied signed the decree as he is convinced that “granting citizenship to those who applied for it, particularly those with long-term residence permits, is a human right.”

The Tunisian legislation does not set out specific conditions for granting citizenship, the source said.
