Tunisia-President Kais Saied meets German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas

President Kais Saied received German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas at Carthage presidential palace.

The meeting designated a chance for Saied to hail the long-standing friendship and alliance merging Tunisia and Germany, he further emphasised the significance of enhanced efforts to scale up collaboration between the two countries and as part of the European Union.

The President stated Tunisia desires to profit on the German experience in governance, transparency, law enforcement and fight against corruption to move from the rule of law to a law-abiding society and embark on economic and social transition.

He likewise said it is imperative to boost German investments in Tunisia and develop cooperation projects. Scientific and academic cooperation is also of capital importance, he added, and new horizons need to be opened for Tunisian students in German universities.
The German FM said the recent elections in Tunisia sent out positive signals that would bolster the confidence of businessmen and investors in the country’s future.
The meeting turned, in another vein, on the state of affairs in Libya and Germany’s preparations for the 2020 Berlin Conference on Libya.
Consultations which Germany set in motion with concerned countries took centre stage. These talks are designed to work out a common vision that secures the success of this conference and helps reach a political solution to the Libyan conflict while taking into account the Libyan people’s interests, reports the TAP agency.
