On the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, the President of the Republic, Kais Saied welcomed a delegation from the National Union of Tunisian Journalists “SNJT” at Carthage presidential palace.
After the meeting, the representative of the SNJT delegation stated that they handed over to President Saied the annual press freedom report.
He furthermore indicated that their conversation concentrated on the challenges confronting the press sector, in particular the constraints that journalists encounter in the field, the abuse of the journalist’s right to work in a healthy professional atmosphere as well as the abuse of its economic right.
In addition, he stated that the blocking of the publication of the Joint Journalists’ Convention so far is the principal cause of the sector’s problems.
The parties raised the subject of judicial evasion and blocked legislation regulating the audiovisual sector in Tunisia.
